A 1932 Sanborn Map shows that at one time Huff Road was called Blandtown Road from Howell Mill Road to the Huff Road railway underpass. The old Huff Road started at this railway crossing and headed west, and back in the days of the Civil War ended up at Marietta Street. Sara Huff wrote a book about her experiences during the Civil War (which can be found at www.artery.org). From this writing it is known that the Huff family had a large farm and a home perched atop the hill where Ellsworth Avenue meets Huff Road today. At some latter date the name Huff Road was extended to Howell Mill Road as it is presently.
